DIVERTISSEMENTS AT THE PALACE OF VERSAILLES

Palatul Versailles: cel mai bogat teren de distracţie din lume pentru regalitate (familie regală). Un palat potrivit pentru un rege şi nu un rege oarecare, ci Louis al XIV-lea, „Regele Soare”, care a domnit timp de 72 de ani şi autoproslăvirea căruia nu avea limite. Începând cu 1661 el a transformat o cabană de vânătoare într-un palat sclipitor. Influienţa muzicii lui Lully a produs o revoluţie radicală în stilul dansurilor chiar la curtea din Versailles. Mişcările lente şi grandioase care au dominat pînă la acel timp au fost înlocuite cu balete vesele (pline de energie) cu ritm rapid.

The Palace of Versailles: The world’s most opulent playground for royalty! A palace fit for a king! And not just any king, but Louis XIV, the „Sun King,« who reigned for 72 years and whose self-glorification knew no bounds. Starting in 1661, he transformed a humble hunting lodge into a glittering palace. The influence of Lully’s music produced a radical revolution in the style of the dances at the court of Versailles itself. Instead of the slow and stately movements which had prevailed until then, he introduced lively ballets (full of energy) with of rapid rhythm.
