În articol ne propunem să analizăm izvoarele, premisele apariției și dezvoltării teatrului și textului dramatic documentar, să descoperim mișcările teatrale reprezentative care au condiționat apariția teatrului documentar, să abordăm lucrările teoretice și creațiile practicienilor care au determinat și influențat direcțiile și formele evolutive ale dramei documentare de la sfârșitul sec. XX – începutul sec. XXI. Izvoarele teatrului documentar le găsim în dramele istorice. Naturalismul a fost precursorul spectacolului documentar. În forma sa modernă, teatrul documentar îi are ca precursori pe cunoscuții teoreticieni și practicieni teatrali germani – Bertolt Brecht şi Erwin Piscator, care și-au focusat creația pe tensiunile dintre clasele sociale şi
structurile guvernamentale.

In this article, we aim to analyze the sources, the premises of the emergence and development of the theater and the documentary dramatic text, to discover the representative theatrical movements that conditioned the emergence of the documentary theater, to approach the theoretical works and the creations of the practitioners who determined and influenced the evolutionary directions and forms of the documentary drama from the end of the 20th century – the beginning of the the 21st century. We find the sources of the documentary theater in historical dramas. Naturalism was the forerunner of the documentary show. In its modern form, the documentary theater has as its precursors the well-known German theatrical theorists and practitioners – Bertolt Brecht and Erwin Piscator, who focused their creation on the tensions between the social classes and government structures.
