Articolul de faţă îşi propune să analizeze romanţa mondenă urbană din perspectiva structurii muzicale şi a interpretării vocale, pentru a evidenţia complexitatea acestui gen artistic aflat la graniţa dintre tradiţie şi modernitate. Romanţa apare şi se dezvoltă în spaţiul românesc începând cu prima jumătate a secolului al XIX-lea, într-un context de modernizare accelerată a societăţii. Penetrarea influenţelor occidentale, mai ales franceze şi italiene, în cultura urbană românească, alături de persistenţa unor tradiţii orientale şi autohtone (muzica lăutărească şi folclorul ţărănesc), a contribuit la formarea caracteristicilor melodice şi interpretative ale acestui gen hibrid, profund afectiv şi adaptabil gustului societăţii.

This article aims to analyze the urban salon romance from the perspective of musical structure and vocal interpretation, in order to highlight the complexity of this artistic genre situated at the boundary between tradition and modernity. The romance emerged and developed in the Romanian cultural space starting in the first half of the nineteenth century, within a context of accelerated societal modernization. The penetration of Western influences, especially French and Italian, into Romanian urban culture, together with the persistence of certain Eastern and indigenous traditions (lăutărească music and rural folklore), contributed to shaping the melodic and interpretative characteristics of this hybrid genre, deeply emotional and adaptable to the tastes of society.
