REFLAVTIONS UPON A SELF PORTRAIT IN PAINTING

In the present article the author approaches the problem of a painter’s self portrait in which the artist conveys not only the most personal, the most individual features but through them his own identification with mankind, the rhythm of any human life and the man’s possibilities of self-achievement. At the same time the self portrait constitutes a socio-psychological document of the artist’s social position in the epoch and the expression of confronting it. Thus, the self portrait constitutes a document of its time because the artist sees and appreciates himself, consciously or not, depending on the experiences and the norms of the respective stage of social development.
