Articolul este focusat pe aspecte ale istoriei şi funcţionalităţii unui instrument tradiţional românesc în actualitate — naiul. Avându-şi originile în antichitate, astăzi naiul este răspândit pe întreg mapamondul. În arealul românesc, începând cu Epoca Medievală, naiul a făcut parte din formaţiile instrumentale tradiţionale, ca instrument solistic de bază. În a doua jumătate a secolului XX, naiul cunoaşte o ascensiune artistică spectaculoasă, datorită perfecţionării construcţiei sale. Începând cu anii 1940 s-au format tradiţii solide de predare instituţionalizată a naiului, au apărut noi generaţii de naişti. Modernizarea acestui valoros instrument tradiţional românesc trezeşte interes pentru muzicieni şi compozitori din diverse ţări.

The article is focused on historical aspects and the functionality of a traditional Romanian current instrument — the panflute. Having origins in antiquity, today the panflute is wide-spread all over the world. In the Romanian area, from the Medieval Epoch, the panflute was included in the traditional bands. In the second part of the 20th century the panflute had a great artistic ascension, due its perfection in construction that revolutionized the art of interpretation on this instrument, and today it has the highest level of virtuosity. Beginning with the 1940s strong traditions of institutional teaching of the panflute were developed. The modernization of this traditional Romanian instrument presents interest for different musicians from different countries.
