THE TRIPTYCH ARCHANGEL MICHAEL AND THE SAINT APOSTLES PETER AND PAVEL — A WORK OF ART OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY
In the present article the author points out the value of a work of art from the first half of the 19th century – the triptych Archangel Michael and the Saint Apostles Peter and Pavel. The origin of this icon is not identified. We think that the triptych was painted by a professional – the icon painter might have had a thorough training in Russia or Ukraine. The technique of execution is of oil on wood. As a result of a thorough analysis we can remark that the icon painter managed to create a work of real artistic value. The triptych conveys a special atmosphere due to the permeability of the icon painter to the influence of Italian Renaissance and European Baroque. The icon makes a great impression by its composition, well-proportioned treatment of the figures, the vertuality of the drawing, the colour scheme, the image plastic.
