Concentrându-se, în primul rând, pe dimensiunea poetică a cântecului, această cercetare explorează intersecţia dintre mit, istorie şi memorie colectivă în liedul „Avenging and Bright” de Benjamin Britten. Analiza pune accent pe straturile simbolice şi narative ale textului, urmărind modurile în care mitologia irlandeză şi experienţa istorică tumultuoasă a insulei se întâlnesc într-un discurs liric condensat. Înrădăcinată în legenda fiilor lui Usna şi modelată de secole de conflicte anglo-irlandeze, poezia articulează teme precum trădarea, eroismul şi răzbunarea, transformându-le în embleme ale identităţii naţionale şi ale rezistenţei morale. Cercetarea contextualizează liedul în cadrul tradiţiei mai largi a patrimoniului folcloric irlandez şi a transmiterii sale prin colecţiile lui Edward Bunting şi adaptările lui Thomas Moore, ulterior reinterpretate de Britten. The analysis emphasizes the symbolic and narrative layers of the text, tracig the ways in which Irish mythology and the island’s turbulent historical experience converge within a condensed lyrical discourse. Rooted in the legend of the sons of Usna and shaped by centuries of Anglo-Irish conflicts, the poem articulates themes of betrayal, heroism, and vengeance, transforming them into emblems of national identity and moral resistance. The research contextualizes the song within the broader tradition of Irish folk heritage and its transmission through the collections of Edward Bunting and the adaptations of Thomas Moore, later reinterpreted by Britten.
