THE PAST AND PRESENT IN THE MUSIC OF THE OTHER EUROPEAN ORCHESTRA

Autorul abordează anumite premise şi contexte de ordin istoric, cultural, social ce au condiţionat constituirea şi evoluarea cu mult succes pe scenele lumii, a formaţiei internaţionale ”The Other Europeans”, ce a întrunit 14 muzicieni din 7 ţări, inclusiv Republica Moldova. Repertoriul formaţiei reprezintă rezultatul unor încercări de reconstituire şi revalorificare modernă a muzicii emigranţilor evrei americani plecaţi din Moldova la
începutul secolului XX. Privită prin prisma fenomenului bi-muzicalităţii, această muzică reprezintă un tezaur cultural comun, ce nu poate fi neglijat şi necesită a fi studiat conform rigorilor ştiinţei etnomuzicologice moderne.

The author threats some historical, cultural and social premises and contexts that determined the formation and successful performing on the world stages of ”The Other Europeans” band, formed by 14 musicians from 7 countries, including the Republic of Moldova. The orchestra’s repertoire has been constituted in the process of reconstitution and modern revaluation of the music of the Jewish American immigrants from Moldova at the
beginning of the 20th century. Seen in the light of the bi-musicality phenomenon, this music represents a common cultural heritage that cannot be ignored. It should be studied according to the rigors of modern ethnomusicology.
