Studierea ştiinţifică a designului contemporan – unui fenomen complex, sintetic, multiplu, care se regăseşte integrat în toate domeniile şi aspectele vieţii social-economice, şi care la hotarul secolelor XX-XXI s-a afirmat ca un factor prioritar de progres al civilizaţiei, impune aplicarea unor metodologii de cercetare moderne, aplicate pe larg în investigaţiile teoretice din toate domeniile ştiinţelor reale şi social-umanistice. Baza metodologică a acestor investigaţii este viziunea sistemică – teoria generală a sistemelor.
